Treat for Dad: 5 Father's Day Special Foods June 13 2014, 1 Comment
This year skip the fancy dinner out and surprise Dad with a delicious home cooked meal that you enjoy out on the porch with the whole family. The menu is steakhouse-inspired and is perfect for a beautiful Father's Day weekend.
Special treats for Dad!
Here are 5 special treats to serve your Dad this Father’s Day:
Grilled steak. If you nail the steaks, Dad is sure to be happy for the rest of the evening. Select a thick cut of rib eye that forms a nice crust while staying pink on the inside. If you want to dress it up a little bit, add compound butter with parsley, garlic and onions or go all out with a rich béarnaise sauce.
Grilled corn on the cob. Is there anything that says summer quite like sweet corn on the cob hot off the grill? The fresher the corn, the better it tastes. Keep it simple with a melting pat of butter and a dash of salt so that the corn's natural sweetness gets to shine.
Mixed tomato salad. While you have the steak and corn cooking on the grill, mix up the tomato salad. Slice seasonal red and yellow tomatoes and white onions in thick chunks and add a seasonal twist with peppery arugula.
Potato salad. Cold mashed potato salad with sour cream, mayonnaise, scallions and bacon is reminiscent of the classic steakhouse baked potato side and just right for an outdoor June dinner. Prepare it ahead of time so that you have one less thing to worry about on Father's Day.
Wine. Think about choosing a generous wine with lots of layers that Dad can enjoy during the entire evening. Wines that pack a burst of initial deep, dark flavors and then hint at subtler tones as the meal continues are ideal to pair with rib eye steaks. Consider the 2005 Weinert Cabernet Sauvignon or the Don Tiburcio 2009 from Benegas.
